At CompanyCations, we have a passion for sports, and truth be told, we love almost anything that involves competition and camaraderie. However, if there’s one sport that holds a special place in our hearts, it’s handball. This incredible sport has truly captured our hearts, and it’s not hard to see why.

 

As the year draws to a close, we’ve had the privilege of being a part of something truly extraordinary – Lundaspelen. For those who might not be familiar, Lundaspelen is a handball tournament that takes place in the halls of Skåne, Sweden, every year during the holiday season. With nearly 780 teams representing 12 nations and referees from an additional 6 nations, it stands as one of the largest handball tournaments of its kind.

 

What makes Lundaspelen even more special for us is our involvement as volunteers and co-organizers this year. We, as parents and members of IFK Malmö (and also part of the CompanyCations team), see this as our way of giving back and supporting the sport we hold so dear. During this tournament, CompanyCations has also proudly sponsored the P-12 team of IFK Malmö. Our hope is that these young players can raise funds for their team’s future adventures, such as camps, tournaments, and perhaps even training trips as they grow older. We understand the profound value of these experiences and aspire to create lasting memories that will accompany them throughout their lives.

 

Lundaspelen boasts a rich history and has played a vital role in youth sports since its inception in 1978. It began as an initiative to provide Lund’s youth with an annual tournament encompassing handball, ice hockey, soccer, and basketball. While soccer and ice hockey are no longer part of the event, handball and basketball have grown to become two of Sweden’s largest youth sports events. From the initial 113 teams representing 28 clubs, Lundaspelen has expanded its reach, welcoming over 18,000 teams from 38 countries by the year 2022. Since its inception, the handball tournament has consistently occurred from December 26th to December 30th, while the basketball tournament has been scheduled between January 2nd and January 5th each year.

 

Being a part of this incredible journey and supporting the ongoing development of youth sports is a true honor for us. We share their motto: “Memories for life.” This is precisely what Lundaspelen creates for young athletes – memories and experiences that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. And this is exactly what we aim to create for companies looking to take their employees on trips with us – an opportunity to be part of a fellowship, embark on exciting adventures, and create memories together!
